Footage and images have emerged of Daniel Stendel joining Barnsley fans at the pub to say a unique goodbye after leaving the club.

The club announced on Monday that they had parted ways with Stendel, 16 months after the German coach took charge.

The 45-year-old joined in June 2018 and led the Tykes to promotion from League One in his first season at the helm.

However, the Reds have struggled after returning to the Championship and are currently 23rd in the table–having scored the least goals in the league and conceded the most.

The 5-1 hammering at the hands of Preston North End on Saturday appears to have been the nail in the coffin for Stendel–who was sacked just two days later.

The German coach appears to have had a very strong connection with Barnsley fans and joined them for a rather unique send off last night.

Images have emerged on Twitter of Stendel joining many fans for a drink at the pub.

While footage has even emerged of the former Reds boss taking shots with fans.

It appears Stendel could stay in the North of England, as Sunderland are reportedly considering him for their vacant manager role.

The Verdict

This is absolutely fantastic from Stendel and shows he has a real connection with and respect for the Barnsley fans.

It must be a pretty painful situation for him, having got the Reds promoted last season and be leaving early in the season, but it is a testament to the man that he went and joined fans last night.

You have to feel for the German coach, who took Barnsley up last season and then saw a number of key players sold in the summer.
