Norwich City are undoubtedly in need of defensive reinforcements ahead of transfer deadline day this week, with Daniel Farke’s side holding the unenviable record of having the worst defensive record in the second tier heading into the international break.

The German boss must make changes if his reign at Carrow Road is not to be short lived, and addressing the issues at the back is essential if the Canaries are to turn their season around at this early stage.

One man who may be available this summer is Newcastle’s Grant Hanley, with the Scottish international surplus to requirements at St James’ Park.

Joining only last summer from Blackburn Rovers in a £5.5 million deal, Hanley has failed to live up to expectation in the north east, and has barely featured since his move was completed.

Only one appearance to his name this season in a Carabao Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest, it appears Hanley is certainly on his way out.

Farke has been linked with Hanley, but fans will question whether the player is the right man to ease Norwich’s defensive crisis.

The Canaries will certainly consider themselves as promotion contenders, and if Hanley is not good enough to get anywhere near the starting XI at Newcastle, will he be good enough for Norwich?

Hanley could perhaps to considered unlucky, having joined a Newcastle side with a plethora of fantastic players at this level on their books.

However he failed to push himself to force his way into Benitez’s plans, and Farke must consider whether Hanley is the right man for his squad.

If the Scot can be acquired in a real cut price deal then Farke should push to get the player, but if Newcastle demand a fee in the region of what they paid for the defender, the German should stay well clear of a deal.

What do you think, Norwich fans? Would you be happy to see Hanley at Carrow Road?
