In a worrying prediction for Leeds United fans, pundit Darren Bent has suggested that Marcelo Bielsa, Kalvin Phillips, Jack Harrison, Helder Costa and Ben White could all leave the club if promotion cannot be achieved this season.

The Whites are leading the way in the Sky Bet Championship and, along with West Bromwich Albion, have done so for most of the campaign.

Indeed, the pair would be worthy promotion winners as things stand, but it remains to be seen how this season is going to play out and, indeed, if it is even going to get the chance to do so.

The intention remains to complete the season fully, but Darren Bent has warned that if, for whatever reason, the club does not go up, a damaging exodus could ensue.

He told Football Insider:

"Obviously we’ve got Kalvin Phillips, I think he could go. Jack Harrison’s done well so I think people will be looking at him.

“They could lose Helder Costa, I think he could go, the centre-half I really like, Ben White, too.

“I just think for Leeds, it’s all been geared up for two years towards promotion and I think even the manager could go. I think it’s been geared up for two years to get promoted, it should have happened last season but didn’t, this is the season it will happen."

The Verdict

It is easy to see a situation where certain players do not remain at Leeds if Premier League football is not attained this season and, indeed, Marcelo Bielsa will see question marks over his head as well as to whether he'll want another season in the second tier.

However, Leeds are currently well placed to not have to worry about a lot of what Bent has mentioned, and they'll be eager to seal promotion if and when they get the chance to allay such fears.
