Cyrus Christie has urged Nottingham Forest to score the first goal in order to give them the platform to go on and win games.

It has been a disappointing start to the season for the Reds, who have only managed to record one league win thus far this season.

The Reds have conceded in every game apart from that victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, and have conceded the first goal in 12 of their last 13 matches.

Nottingham Forest quiz: Are these 12 facts about the Reds’ history genuine or not?

At the weekend, Forest fell to their fifth defeat of the campaign, losing 1-0 to Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

The Reds looked largely solid throughout, but were made to rue missed chances when Christie allowed Marvin Johnson to sneak in at the back post and fire past Brice Samba.

Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live, Christie has urged his side to score the game's first goal ahead of two important home games against Coventry City and Wycombe Wanderers this week.

He said: "When you’ve had the results we’ve had, it’s looking for that win.

“We beat Blackburn, albeit in the last minute, and we’ve come from behind in games, so we’ve shown different sides to our game and shown character. Now we need to get in front and give ourselves a platform.

“If we can get in front, it doesn’t look like we’ll concede, because I believe we’ve been defensively sound. We’ve been strong in not letting the opposition create chances.

“It’s a matter of time, I believe."

The Verdict

It must have a huge psychological effect when a team goes a goal down.

The opposition immediately look to defend that lead which makes life really difficult for the team looking to get back into the game.

Forest have showed character to come from behind against Rotherham, Derby and Luton, but they need to start taking the game by the scruff of the neck.

It would give them a massive confidence boost if they took the lead against Coventry.
