Derby County defender Curtis Davies has offered his backing to the Rams' number one goalkeeper Kelle Roos, ahead of Derby's meeting with Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Roos has come under fire recently from Derby supporters, following the keeper's failure to command his penalty area in recent away performances, which have contributed to the Rams losing their last four Championship matches on their travels, including the 3-0 defeat suffered at Fulham in midweek.

The 27-year-old struggled to come off his line for two set pieces against Fulham which led to the hosts scoring twice to put the game beyond Cocu's side, and although he made some impressive saves to keep the score line down at Craven Cottage, his performance saw him come under scrutiny from the Rams' supporters after the game.

The defeat at Fulham was the third time this season that Derby have been beaten by a 3-0 score line in the league on their travels, with Roos similarly failing to command his area in those defeats at Brentford and Charlton Athletic - and although he has kept four successive clean sheets at home his place could be in doubt on Saturday.

Can you name Derby County’s last 15 managers?

Speaking to the media, ahead of Derby's clash against QPR on Saturday Davies suggested that Roos has his full backing and that he has no concerns of the 27-year-old's recent form, saying: "Kelle is a confident guy. I am with him, I have no doubts he will continue to do well this season.”

The Verdict

As you would expect Davies is keen to show that Roos retains the confidence of Derby's squad and their back four heading into the weekend, but the Rams' defence did not appear to have much belief in his ability to command his box during the defeat at Fulham in midweek.

Roos is unquestionably a very effective shot stopper, which he has demonstrated during Derby's run of five successive home league wins and on their travels in helping to keep score lines down, but he simply has to do better from set pieces and crosses into the penalty area if he is going to be able to keep himself as the club's number one keeper.

Cocu has a real decision to make on Saturday, over whether to bring Roos out of the firing line for a match and bring Ben Hamer into the side, or whether to stick by his keeper and keep him in the starting line-up - and that decision could go a long way to reflecting whether Roos will still remain the club's number one over the next few months.
