As we approach the new sesaon, Derby County are a side facing a lot of uncertainty.

Despite their best efforts, the Rams were unable to overcome their points deduction last season and as a result suffered relegation to League One.

Things were looking up when Chris Kirchner was planning on taking over the club but after pulling out of the deal at the final hurdle, the club are now back to square one.

A takeover could still happen in time for the season but with players' current contracts expiring at the end of the month, nothing can be done about them until a takeover is complete.

Curtis Davies was a regular part of the side this season playing well for the side and has expressed his desire to stay at the club ,but admits that it would be wrong of him not to consider options from elsewhere with the current situation up in the air.

The centre-back told Sky Sports (via Derbyshire Live): "I still don't know, until there's an owner here to be able to obviously speak about my contract, I don't know.

"I've said that I'd like to stay here, I'd like to be part of the team that got promoted again, but ultimately I want to keep playing, so the thing for me is if there is to be something out there then I'd be silly not to take something.

"But I'm hoping with all the rumours that are circulating again with potential new owners. The latest I've heard is of another three or four parties that are interest, I'm hoping one of those get over the line, if not for me then for the club in general because this club, it would be massive for it to get sorted and get back to the championship."

The Verdict:

It's clear that Davies is keen to stay with the Rams for next season. He has seemingly enjoyed his time with the club so far and wants to be part of the side that attempt to regain promotion to the Championship.

However, as he points out, it's a hard situation in the current climate given how uncertain the future of the club is and therefore how uncertain his own future is.

When it comes down to it, the 37-year-old is a footballer and for his own career he needs to ensure he has the opportunity to actually play football next year.

Therefore, if things are looking to be the same way at Derby by the end of the month when his contract is up, it wouldn't be surprising to see clubs come in for him and as much as he wants to stay put at Pride Park, he would have to take those options very seriously.
