Curtis Davies delivers clear social media message to Derby County fans and Dylan Williams after West Brom draw

Derby County defender Curtis Davies has taken to his personal Instagram account to celebrate the character that the Rams were able to show in earning a point in their goalless draw at West Brom.

Wayne Rooney’s side were always likely to be in for a tough evening at the Hawthorns against a West Brom side that started the night on the top of the Championship table.

It was vital that Derby got back towards the sort of solid foundation that had been critical to them picking up important points ahead of the international break.

That came after they had looked vulnerable at times at the back in their 2-0 loss at Birmingham City.

The decision was made by Rooney to switch to a three-man defence with Lee Buchanan moving in alongside Davies and Phil Jagielka. While a first league start was handed to Dylan Williams in the left-wing-back position.

The Rams delivered a very solid display and their defenders were all willing to put their bodies on the line and make some crucial interventions to maintain their clean sheet.

Davies was able to win nine aerial duels, make nine clearances, three blocks and he also crucially was in the right place at the right time to hook one off the line as West Brom piled pressure on Derby.

Which of these strikers is Derby County's record goalscorer?

Following the Rams’ goalless draw at West Brom, Davies took to his personal Instagram account to hail the character on show from his teammates and also celebrate their hard-earned point.

While he also singled out Williams for praise after his excellent debut performance.

The verdict

Davies was exceptional at times for Derby at West Brom. He showed just how important his experience and leadership qualities are for the Rams in games like that when they are coming under intense pressure at times.

Derby needed to show a lot of spirit and togetherness to take anything from their trip to West Brom, and Davies’ performance alongside the rest of the defence certainly showed that.

The defender is right to focus on the character and fighting spirit within the Rams’ dressing room after their performance at West Brom.

That had been on show already in the first month of the campaign and they demonstrated that the Birmingham City defeat had not dented their belief.

It is good that Davies had picked out Williams for praise because the young defender showed great maturity against West Brom.

He looks like a player that with the right guidance could become an integral member of the squad this term.
