West Bromwich Albion could face Premier League competition from Crystal Palace over Orlando City striker Daryl Dike as, according to The Athletic, he is on Crystal Palace's radar heading into the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old thrived under Valerien Ismael while on loan at Barnsley last season – scoring nine times in 21 appearances to help the Tykes make the play-offs – and is an Albion target heading into the winter window as the Championship club looks to solve its striking issue.

However, it seems they could face competition from the Premier League.

The Sun revealed in October that Patrick Viera is open to ending Jean-Philippe Mateta's loan early in January and The Athletic has indicated that Palace may look to sign Dike as a replacement.

The report claims Selhurst Park outfit would look to sign the American forward on loan, likely with an option to make the deal permanent in the future.

Dike scored 11 times in 19 appearances for Orlando in the 2021 MLS season, which ended earlier this month meaning he should be available from January.

Palace were linked with the USA international in the summer window but were said to have been put off by the £18 million asking price.

The Verdict

This will be cause for concern for the Baggies, who will find it difficult to compete with Palace if both sides are indeed pursuing Dike.

Selhurst Park may well be the preferred destination for the American, given their Premier League status and more financial clout.

West Brom are in desperate need of a new striker and Dike does seem the ideal option given he's thrived in Ismael's system before.

The Championship side will have to hope that either Mateta stays at Palace or their manager can use his relationship with the player as leverage.
