Crystal Palace are preparing a last-ditch, desperation bid for Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker, amid reports of QPR being close to securing his signature, according to ClubCall.

The 22-year old England international defender was one of many stand-out performers for Cardiff this past season but was unable to prevent his side's relegation from the Premier League.

He joined Cardiff last summer for £8 million from Tottenham Hotspurs and went on to make 38 league appearances and was able to score five goals.

His performances caught the eyes of many Premier League sides including his previous club Spurs and Liverpool.

However, as of late, newly promoted Premier League side QPR have tabled a bid to sign Caulker and now seem to be close to finalising the deal.

It is believed that Palace are ready to offer in excess of £8 million for the defender in a bid to tempt Cardiff to veto the deal with QPR and go against their declarations that Caulker can decide where his future lies.
