Fleetwood Town have registered their interest in signing Crystal Palace midfielder Nya Kirby on loan for the remainder of the season according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Nixon spent last year's campaign on loan with League One side Blackpool, where he made 11 appearances for the Tangerines as they finished tenth in the third tier standings.

Kirby hasn't made a single appearance for the Crystal Palace first team this season, and the Eagles are seemingly keen to find the youngster regular game time before the season concludes in May.

Fleetwood are currently sat 11th in the League One table, and are clearly trying to strengthen their squad before the January transfer window closes.

The Trawlermen will fancy their chances of forcing themselves into the play-off places before the season reaches a conclusion, and the club's supporters will be hoping that Kirby can play his part in that push if he arrived this month.

Fleetwood are next in action against Coventry City on Tuesday, in what is certain to be a tricky test for Joey Barton's side.

The Verdict:

I think this could be a smart signing by Joey Barton's side.

Kirby has experience of playing in League One having played for Blackpool last season. So, it makes this potential signing not as risky as originally first thought.

But Kirby will be keen to showcase his talent and continue his development in senior football, which I think he'd be able to do with Fleetwood.

Joey Barton needs strength in depth in his Fleetwood team, as they look to continue their challenge for promotion into the Championship this season.
