Crystal Palace are in line to complete the signing of Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland on Deadline Day, according to the Daily Mail.

Butland's future at the bet365 Stadium looks uncertain, with the club open to selling the 27-year-old before the transfer window slams shut this afternoon.

Butland endured a shaky season for the Potters last term, making a host of glaring errors in what was ultimately a disappointing campaign for the club.

Quiz: Do Stoke City and Port Vale have these 10 things in common?

The 27-year-old is yet to make a single appearance under Michael O'Neill this season, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, a move away looks likely.

Butland has previously been linked with a move to Southampton, in a potential swap deal which would see Angus Gunn move to Stoke in the opposite direction.

Liverpool have also been previously credited with an interest in the nine-time England international, but it's now Crystal Palace who are expected to win the race for the shot-stopper.

The Daily Mail claim that Palace made contact with Stoke regarding a move for Butland on Thursday night, with a deal now expected to be wrapped up before the transfer window closes this evening.

The 27-year-old is wanted by Palace to provide competition for Vicente Guaita, as Palace look to have another positive season in the top-flight.

The Verdict

I have my doubts over whether this is a good move for Butland.

He does need a fresh start, and ultimately, a move back to the Premier League enhances his chances of getting back into the England side if he performs well.

Will he be a regular starter for Palace, though? I doubt he'd get in ahead of Guaita and he will need to do a lot to impress.
