Crystal Palace are interested in signing Remi Mathews, but Football Insider report they have had a bid turned down by Bolton.

It is believed the 25-year-old has been identified as a potential back-up for Vincente Guita and Wayne Hennessey, despite the Championship being the highest level he has played at - and he has made just 18 appearances in that division.

Ipswich have been linked with the keeper already this summer, and he looks like he could become the latest Bolton to leave this summer, after they lost Luca Connell to Celtic last weekend.

Bolton will likely hold out for as much as they can given their financial predicament, and if Palace come in with an improved offer he could be set for a move to Selhurst Park.

He has a big job on his hands if he is to impress Roy Hodgson but he is still young and his career is on the up, despite relegation last season.

The Verdict

It is surprise to see a Premier League side come in for Mathews. As talented as he is, he does lack experience in the top two divisions and he would likely struggle if called upon for Palace next season.

He is better suited to staying at Bolton where he would be first choice. That would improve his game and do Bolton a huge favour, as they could lose their other keeper Ben Alnick and other players if they don't find a buyer soon.

A move to Palace could work out however, he would be working with better keepers and better coaches and he should improve if he goes there, but that being said, game time should be his priority in a decision to stay or move.
