Premier League outfit Crystal Palace are monitoring the situation with Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott, with The Sun on Sunday reporting that the Eagles could be preparing a bid of £7 million of the in-form League One man.
Palace have been keeping close tabs on the 23-year-old since the start of the season and had originally earmarked the hotshot for a move to the Eagles at the end of the campaign.
Marriott has smashed 24 goals so far this season, however, and Palace are not thought to be considering stepping up their efforts to land the player who is attracting interest from teams at the top end of the Championship and other top flight clubs.
The Posh are desperate to keep their influential talisman but the bid that Palace are reportedly preparing would surely tempt the League One club into a sale during the current transfer window.
Leeds, Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers are other Championship clubs apparently in the mix to sign the striker, whilst West Ham United boss David Moyes is also a keen admirer.
Peterborough United have a proven history when it comes to signing players on the cheap from the lower leagues and then flogging them for millions and Marriott looks set to be the latest player to be added to their star studded list.
A fee in the region of £7 million would surely tempt the club’s hierarchy into a sale and there looks a real possibility that the Posh could lose their star man during the current transfer window.
It remains to be seen whether or not Marriott can make the step up and perform in the Premier League, although £7 million in today’s market represents a low risk transfer for Crystal Palace – should they secure the 23-year-old’s signature.
