Premier League outfit Crystal Palace could allow Jesurun Rak-Sakyi to stay at Charlton Athletic if he remains a key part of their team, according to an update from The Sun.

The 20-year-old has thrived at The Valley this season, recording six goals and two assists in 22 league appearances for Dean Holden's side and making an impact during the early stages of the former Bristol City manager's tenure.

Scoring against Portsmouth on New Year's Day, he then played most of the game against Lincoln City yesterday as the Addicks recorded another victory, getting themselves off to a perfect start to 2023.

They looked set to suffer a blow this month with several teams taking an interest in loanee Rak-Sakyi, including Hull City, Ipswich Town, Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday as well as Barnsley who joined the race more recently.

The Tykes are believed to be targeting an ambitious double swoop to take both the 20-year-old and fellow Palace youngster Luke Plange to Oakwell as Michael Duff looks to strengthen his side.

But Duff's side and other teams could be set for a transfer blow, with Patrick Vieira's side potentially willing to let winger Rak-Sakyi stay with his current loan side if he stays in Holden's team.

The Verdict:

Palace wouldn't benefit from recalling the 20-year-old and keeping him in their first team unless Malcolm Ebiowei seals a loan exit and they suddenly experience a major injury crisis out wide.

They could potentially send him to a Championship side for the remainder of the season - but he may not be guaranteed regular starts there and this is why they would benefit from allowing the winger to stay with his current team.

Switching teams now would probably kill his momentum and that's the last thing he needs considering how well he's doing.

He probably hasn't had to relocate either considering how close Charlton and Palace are as two teams in the English capital, so making a move to a team like Hull now would mean he would have to relocate temporarily.

That's a distraction he simply doesn't need and whilst he's continuing to win regular game minutes under Holden, there are no reasons why he should be recalled. There will be time for him to test himself at a higher level next season because there will be no shortage of interest in him in the summer if he can retain his form.
