Swansea City goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has given an update on his time at the Liberty Stadium since moving on loan from Newcastle United in the summer.

Since landing in South Wales, he has become the regular figure in Steve Cooper's goal and has now emphasised just how much the move is helping him, insisting he is constantly improving.

“I am the type of player and person who wants to get better every day," Woodman said in an interview with the club's official website.

“Me and Marge (goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson) have conversations all the time – ‘did you see this’, ‘can we improve this’. It’s a brilliant way to work and a great mindset.

“I can see this throughout the club. There is always the mentality of how do we improve? That’s something I’ve been brought up on.”

In 11 appearances so far this season, Woodman has conceded just nine goals, the second fewest in the division, keeping four clean sheets - becoming one of the division's stand-out goalkeepers.

He has helped Cooper and his side rise into an impressive fourth place with a trip to relegation threatened and managerless Barnsley on the cards for this weekend.

A win could see go top of the table if West Brom, Nottingham Forest and Preston all fail to win and the 22-year-old will be keen to show his parent club what he can do again.

The verdict

Woodman has been absolutely excellent so far this season and is looking like a bit of a coup for Steve Cooper and his side.

He is full of confidence and Newcastle must be looking on and realising that this is somebody whow will play first-team football for them soon.

But for now he just needs to maintain his focus. If he can continue his fine form over the rest of the season, there is no reason at all that he will not be the Magpies' main man.
