Derby County continued their strong form at Pride Park by picking up an important 1-0 win against Hull City this afternoon.

The Rams took the lead midway through the second half, with Matt Clarke rising above keeper George Long and heading in his first goal for the club, following a good delivery from Tom Lawrence’s corner, and that proved to be enough for Derby to secure all three points.

The win was Derby’s eighth home win of the campaign in the Championship and lifts the Rams up to 15th place in the table, as Cocu’s side continued their recent up turn in form with a third straight home win and a third win in their last four league games.

That suggests that Cocu’s side are starting to get back on track, after they had gone seven matches without a win in the Championship between the end of November and the end of December – and they are starting to re-find the sort of form at home that saw them win four matches in a row on home soil a few months ago.

Given it was reported in the week that Derby could yet receive a points deduction from the EFL for breaching financial rules, it is vital that the Rams continue to pick up enough points to give themselves a cushion to the bottom three.
