Crewe, Crawley and Stockport all keen on 20-year-old Rangers man

After another set of loan stints in the Football League this season, Stockport, Crewe and Crawley are all ready to try and sign Josh McPake on a deal this summer, as reported by the Daily Record.

The 20-year-old currently plays for Rangers in Scotland but has been unable to break into the first-team fold as of yet. In fact, he has yet to make his league debut for the Scottish Premier League outfit and has instead had to make do with his getting his football elsewhere so far.

Having first been sent out on loan to Harrogate in 2020/21, he has since spent the last campaign on loan with two separate Football League clubs. He initially went to Morecambe last summer but failed to make an impression there too, with just three league starts to his name.

The 7 question Crawley Town Football Club quiz – can you get all 7 correct?

1 of 7

How old is David Sesay?

He was ultimately brought back to Rangers in the January window and was then sent back out to Tranmere, where he got onto the field a lot more frequently in League Two. With 14 league appearances to his name, he even managed to find the back of the net and made quite the impression for the side during his time there.

Now, with it looking unlikely that he will break into the Rangers first-team fold again next season, it looks as though another loan deal to England could be on the cards – and once again, there is plenty of interest in his services.

The three main sides linked with him at present are Crewe, Crawley and Stockport as reported by the Daily Record. All three of the sides will play their football in League Two next season, with Crewe having been relegated, Crawley sealing a midtable berth and Stockport gaining a promotion.

McPake then looks like he could spend some time in the fourth tier in the next campaign – and he will have his pick of sides to choose from.

The Verdict

Josh McPake might only be 20-years-old but based on his current career record, it looks like he can be a solid option to a side in League Two – meaning that any of these interested sides could benefit from him in their squad next season.

It’s arguable that his best performances so far have come for Tranmere and Harrogate and that is also where he has received the most gametime. Both of those spells came in the fourth tier – and that means that any of the clubs that manage to land him this summer could be adding a winger with plenty of class at this level to their first-team if they can sign him.

Stockport could be the biggest beneficiaries, as they look to add players with experience and class that can help them stay in the division. Crawley though want to push on in League Two and adding someone creative like McPake could really help that.

As for Crewe, they need to sign someone who can help them bounce straight back up to the third tier. All three could make good cases for the player then but it certainly does look like he will be back in the fourth tier again next season.
