Crewe Alexandra have announced that they are not extending the trial period for winger Femi Orenuga and midfielder Adam Reed.
Both players featured in the Railwaymen’s two pre-season friendlies as Steve Davis’ men beat Norton United and Nantwich Town 4-0 and 4-1 respectively.
Orenuga scored in the game against Norton in the 45 minutes that he played, and he was given another half against the Dabbers to impress.
The former Everton winger failed to make his mark in the game against Nantwich, struggling to get the better of Crewe’s former left back Andy White.
Having started his career with Southend United, the 21-year-old signed for the Toffees in 2009 but left two years later without making a senior appearance.
Orenuga made his senior debut when he featured twice off the bench during a loan spell with Notts County during a six-month spell with the Magpies in 2011.
He came to Crewe on trial having recently returned to the UK after a two-year spell in Sweden with AFC United.
Reed, who was released by League Two side York City in May, failed to make an impact in his two appearances.
He played the second half against Norton as well as playing a part in the Nantwich encounter two days later.
Having progressed through the youth setup with Sunderland, the 23-year-old has had spells with Brentford, Bradford, Leyton Orient, Portsmouth and Burton Albion.
He played 21 games for the Minstermen in an 18-month spell at Bootham Crescent before leaving in May.
Crewe have two games this week when the League One side face Leek Town on Friday before travelling to the Deva stadium to face Conference side Chester on Saturday.
