Championship side Blackpool have endured a very quiet summer so far, failing to bring in a single addition.

In fairness, that probably isn't the biggest disaster considering the fact new manager Michael Appleton needs to assess his existing squad before deciding what he needs, so the Seasiders could be much busier later in the window.

The one big positive for the Lancashire side is the fact they have managed to retain Josh Bowler up until this point, though it remains to be seen whether other sides will test their resolve with bids this summer considering he has just one year left on his deal at Bloomfield Road.

According to The Sun, AFC Bournemouth are launching a £1m move for his signature but considering the bid more than that in January, it would be a surprise if the second-tier side were to accept an offer like that.

There have also been rumours regarding incomings though with two players being linked with the Seasiders in recent days.

And we take a look at the duo and other transfer headlines at Bloomfield Road to have emerged over the weekend.

Millwall set to win Cresswell race

According to a report from Alan Nixon, Millwall are set to win the race for Leeds United centre-back Charlie Cresswell, helping Gary Rowett's side in their quest to replace former loanee Daniel Ballard.

He wasn't short of interest from elsewhere, however, with Sunderland also believed to have been in the race for his signature with Alex Neil previously needing a younger centre-back to arrive at the Stadium of Light.

Arguably, they need another player in this area as well as Ballard, but they have seemingly missed out in this race for Cresswell.

Appleton's side were also reported to be interested in luring the 19-year-old away from Elland Road for the season - but the defender is set to undergo a medical with the Lions.

Rogers remains on radar

Lancs Live revealed on Saturday that Manchester City winger Morgan Rogers is still on the club's radar despite enduring an unsuccessful spell at AFC Bournemouth last term.

He did make 15 league appearances for the Cherries during the 2021/22 campaign but most of these displays came from the bench and with the youngster rarely featuring on the south coast, he was unable to build on a positive 2020/21 season with Lincoln City.

He plied his trade under Appleton at the Imps and enjoyed a productive time at the LNER Stadium, potentially making the Seasiders favourites to recruit him with the club sustaining their interest in the 19-year-old.

At this stage, it would be difficult to see him forcing his way into Pep Guardiola's first-team plans at the Etihad Stadium so another loan deal could potentially be on the cards for the Englishman.

Appleton makes transfer admission

This same report from Lancs Live also included comments from boss Appleton following last weekend's friendly against Southport.

The 46-year-old is believed to be closing in on a couple of additions - but stressed how he didn't want to rush to bring players in after recruiting some players at Lincoln who weren't quite ready to make the step up to first-team football.

He is keen to take that lesson into his current job and has remained calm despite the fact his side are yet to make a single signing so far this summer, with many of their second-tier rivals already moving to recruit several additions in recent weeks.

Speaking at the weekend, he said: "I can only go back to what happened last season at my previous club where we probably did that, ending up taking players that weren't ready or weren't as good as what we had previously and weren't ready for the level. I'm conscious of that not happening again.

"Like I say, between myself, Ben, Simon, the recruitment team we'll make sure that we try and get as good a quality and as better a quality as we possibly can.

"Knowing that the sooner we can them in the better but if you can get that quality, you've got it on day one rather than worrying about having it for a friendly against Leeds or a friendly against Rangers obviously that's going to work out the wrong way."
