Sheffield Wednesday playmaker Barry Bannan posted a message of support for the Scotland National team on Twitter last night, which drew an interesting reaction from many Owls fans.

Scotland lost 4-0 to Russia in the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers last night to end their hopes of automatic qualification for the tournament.

Steve Clarke’s side conceded four goals in 27 minutes in the second half and slumped to a loss that leaves them fifth in their qualifying group with just six points from seven games.

Despite their recent form, neither Bannan nor his Wednesday teammate Steven Fletcher were selected for the most recent Scotland squad.

The 29-year-old is the Owls joint-leading provider of assists, while Fletcher has five goals in the Championship already.

Both players were nominated for the Championship player of the month award for September but Clarke appears not to deem them deserving of selection.

Bannan does not appear to hold a grudge, however, and posted an image of support on Twitter ahead of the game last night.

Many Wednesday fans still seem in disbelief that Bannan was not in the Scotland squad and took to Twitter to express their thoughts.
