This afternoon, Crawley Town have announced that the club's head coach Gabriele Cioffi has departed the club by mutual consent.

The 44-year-old Italian had been in charge of Crawley since September 2018, taking over the reigns from Australian Harry Kewell, and he was in charge of the club for 72 games but underperformed, only having a win percentage of 29.2%.

The final straw for the Crawley board came yesterday after the club was dumped out of the FA Cup by Fleetwood Town, who won the tie 2-1 on Saturday.

Cioffi hasn't seen his Crawley side win since 9th November, a 4-1 win over Scunthorpe United in the first round of the FA Cup.

The Reds board have now taken decisive action as Crawley sit 17th in the league table with 21 points from 19 games, as the club are currently going through a dreadful run of form in League Two.

With no league win since the 12th October, a 2-1 home triumph over Colchester United, Edu Rubio has been selected as the interim head coach to try and stop the side's slide down the league table.

Rubio served as a coach under Cioffi at Crawley, playing a major part in his backroom staff.

The Verdict

Crawley were right to depart ways with Cioffi, who has been unable to stop their slide down the table so far this season.

With no league win since 12th October and no run in the FA Cup to look forward to, Cioffi looked a beaten man in the Crawley hotseat as he struggled to pick up many wins during his 15 months in charge of the club.
