Crawley Town have agreed to sign free agent full-back Ryan Dickson on a two-year deal.

Dickson, who began his career at Plymouth Argyle and counts Brentford and Southampton among his former clubs, spent 2013-14 with Crawley’s League One rivals Colchester United, where he made 35 appearances.

The 27-year-old was offered new terms by the Essex outfit last month, but has decided on a move to The Reds instead and joins post-season recruits such as goalkeeper Brian Jensen, midfielder Jimmy Smith, and fellow defender Lanre Oyebanjo in committing his long-term future to the Sussex side.

“I was really impressed with Ryan when I saw him on a number of occasions last season,” manager John Gregory told the club’s official website.

“Several clubs at our level were keen to sign him but he’s excited about what we are trying to build at Crawley and I think he is going to be a very good addition to our squad.

“He’s a very solid defender who is an excellent athlete and I’m sure our fans will enjoy watching him play.”

Dickson added: “I’m delighted to be at Crawley working for a highly-respected manager at an ambitious club.

“I know this league well and I definitely feel the club is capable of challenging for the play-offs next season. It’s a really exciting new challenge for me and I can’t wait for it to start.”
