Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray is an injury doubt for tomorrow's showdown with Port Vale, according to a report from London News Online.

MacGillivray made his second league appearance of the season last weekend against Burton Albion after his team-mate Joe Wollacott sustained a broken finger during the warm-up.

As a result of this issue, Wollacott had to withdraw from Ghana's 26-man squad for the World Cup and is now set to be sidelined for a number of weeks.

In order to provide some competitions for MacGillivray, Charlton cancelled the loans of Ashley Maynard-Brewer and Nathan Harness earlier this week.

Maynard-Brewer has recently recovered from a shoulder injury that he sustained during his time at Gillingham and is likely to be given the nod to start by manager Ben Garner on Saturday if MacGillivray is ruled out of this clash.

Having rescued a point in their clash with Burton, Charlton will be determined to get back to winning ways in League One at Vale Park.

Currently 11th in the League One standings, the Addicks are only four points adrift of the play-off places and will be determined to launch a push for a top-six finish in the coming months with Garner at the helm.

The Verdict

Charlton will be hoping that MacGillivray is able to overcome his injury as they will need to lean on his experience while Wollacott recovers from his issue.

During his career to date, the 29-year-old has made 179 appearances at this level and thus will be confident in his ability to deliver the goods for the Addicks when called upon.

If MacGillivray is not fit enough to represent Charlton this weekend, Maynard-Brewer could earn an unexpected opportunity to showcase his ability in League One.

Yet to make an appearance in this division during his career, the 23-year-old will be desperate to produce an assured display for the Addicks in their showdown with Vale.
