Blackburn Rovers striker Sam Gallagher arrived at Ewood Park this summer with big expectations, but he's really struggled for form since returning to the club where he made a big impact on loan a few season ago.

Tony Mowbray was keen to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new season and was able to secure the signing of the centre-forward from Premier League side Southampton, much to the excitement of Rovers fans.

Gallagher scored twelve goals in 47 appearances for Rovers in all competitions during a loan spell from Southampton in 2016/17 and he returned to Ewood Park in the summer, signing a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee - believed to be in the region of £5million.

Plenty of Rovers fans were delighted with his signing and expected him to make an instant impact, following his hugely successful loan spell three seasons ago.

However, things really haven't worked out for Gallagher since his return to Ewood Park and he's really struggled to make an impact.

The 24-year-old has made eleven appearances for Rovers in all competitions so far this season, but he's scored just one goal - which came in the 2-1 defeat at Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup.

If anything, Blackburn fans would've expected Gallagher to have been a better player than the one who left Ewood Park over two years ago, but it hasn't turned out like that at all and he seems to be suffering from a lack of confidence.

Mowbray admitted recently that he feels Gallagher's lack of form is partly due to his lack of game time at Southampton over the years, which could well be the case, but it could also be down to the fact that the centre-forward has been used on the right wing in some matches rather than in his natural central role.

The club have shown a lot of faith in Gallagher with the money they've spent on bringing him to Ewood Park and he was expected to score the goals that could make the difference for Rovers in tight matches, but he's yet to deliver on those expectations so far.

Those same Blackburn fans who were quick to welcome the striker back to Ewood Park with open arms in the summer have grown frustrated with his lack of goals and they'll surely be hoping that he can get his season back on track somehow after the international break.
