Having narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season after suffering defeat to Aston Villa in the play-off final in May, expectations at Derby County were high heading into the current campaign.

Whilst Frank Lampard opted to leave the club to take over at Chelsea, his replacement Phillip Cocu arrived at Pride Park with a fantastic reputation due to the success the he achieved during his time in charge of PSV Eindhoven.

Keen to put his own stamp on Derby's squad, the 48-year-old signed the likes of Krystian Bielik, Jamie Paterson and Kieran Dowell.

Dowell's arrival at Pride Park created a buzz amongst the club's supporters due to his escapades at Sheffield United last season.

Utterly fantastic during his spell at Bramall Lane, the midfielder helped the Blades secure promotion to the top-flight earlier this year.

After the Rams announced on Twitter that they had signed Dowell on a season-long loan from Everton, many Derby fans reacted positively to the news.

Here were some of the best responses from the club's supporters...

Although Dowell has illustrated some signs of promise for the Rams over the past two months, he has ultimately failed to produce the goods on a consistent basis this season.

Since impressing on his debut against Huddersfield Town, the 21-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter for Derby.

Following an abysmal display in the club's 3-0 defeat to Brentford which resulted in Cocu substituting him in the 52nd of the clash, Dowell has been forced to watch on from the sidelines by his boss.

Having failed to feature in Derby's last five matches in the Championship, the England Under-21 international will have every right to be feeling concerned about how the rest of his loan spell will pan out.

In order to prevent the possibility of his career stagnating, Dowell will have to demonstrate in training why he deserves another opportunity to impress as a failure to do so could result in him being cut adrift by Cocu.
