Danny Cowley has left Lincoln City in order to take over at Huddersfield Town after Jan Siewert departed after just three games.

The former Imps boss, Cowley, is joining the Terriers ahead of a big game on the weekend against another Yorkshire side in Sheffield Wednesday.

He'll be hoping for a good start at the club and he won't want to end up regretting his decision to leave a recently promoted Lincoln side. However, a lot has been said about how impressive Cowley has been during his time at the Imps, which no one can deny, but Huddersfield should remain cautious over the appointment.

The one thing that Terriers fans and players must remember is that Cowley has never actually managed a side in the Championship. It's a completely different type of game, every team has a different style and there's a lot of very good ball-playing sides.

His record in cup competitions is good, and of course he guided the Imps to that tremendous FA Cup quarter-final beating some good sides throughout, but the players that he will be managing now will want to play a good style of football.

If you look at some of the names in the Huddersfield team, Alex Pritchard, Juninho Bacuna and Elias Kachunga, they all suit a style that gets them involved through quick attacking football. That's what Cowley must try and build, because at the end of the day, it's about getting the best out of the squad that you have at your disposal.

The Terriers fans must not get carried away the appointment, they have to understand that there is potential for it to be a steep learning curve just like it has been for Nathan Jones at Stoke City. The key will be winning games and getting that feeling back around Huddersfield, but after Cowley has had a couple months in charge he will want to stamp down his own style on the squad.

That's where the caution comes from, he may have to take a step back and see how his approach works in the Championship. There is no guarantee that it will be successful in the long-term especially having never worked at this level and Cowley must adapt if he needs to.

This isn't a dig at the manager, because he has been nothing short of spectacular in Lincoln's rise and should only be praised. It's a fantastic appointment for the Championship club, but they must be cautious, that is all. They have to take it step by step and firstly get out of the mess they're in, then they can push on up the league and see what can happen, I'm sure we'll learn a lot more about the approach after Cowley's first transfer window.
