Coventry City have signed former Gillingham and Norwich City striker Simeon Jackson, reports the Coventry Telegraph

The 27-year-old was a free agent after being released by Millwall at the end of last season and the Canadian international has signed a one-year deal with the Sky Blues.

The striker is Coventry's tenth signing of the transfer window.

Jackson started his career at the now defunct Rushden & Diamonds where he scored 42 goals in 91 appearances in four years at the club before moving to Gillingham in January 2008 for £150,000.

He made 168 appearances, scoring 42 goals for Gillingham, including the 90th minute winner in the 2009 League Two play-off final against Shrewsbury Town.

Jackson left for Norwich City in July 2010 and helped the Canaries win promotion to the Premier League, hitting 14 goals in his first season.

The striker spent three years at Carrow Road making 86 appearances, scoring 21 goals, before joining Bundesliga side Eintracht Braunschweig in July 2013.

His stint in Germany was brief, Jackson made just nine appearances before having his contract terminated in January this year. He then joined Millwall in February on a short-term deal where he scored twice in 14 games.

Coventry boss Steven Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph:

“I’m delighted with the deal. He’s a player that adds real speed to the team and he’s obviously got experience of scoring goals not just in League One but in the Championship and the Premier League as well."

"He comes with great pedigree and he’s at a great age so we’re really excited to have him here.

“If you look at the weekend’s game there were a number of moments on the transition when we really looked like we could score but maybe didn’t quite have that speed to take advantage of the situation. He will give us that."

Jackson won't be involved in the trip to Barnsley on Tuesday night as the striker will need to get back to match fitness as Pressley continued:

“He’s not match-fit; he’s obviously been working by himself and with a fitness trainer so he’s in very good condition but it will probably take him two or three weeks to get up to full speed.

“That’s the case with a number of strikers who are available just now – they’re lacking in game time but we had to look longer term and see what Simeon can bring to the team for the vast majority of the season.

“Competition in the striking area is something I’ve been desperate to achieve and I now think that we’ve got four very good strikers.”
