Coventry City fans are counting down the days until the new year so that the transfer window re-opens and they have the opportunity to strengthen their squad again.

A January revamp and an overhaul are desperately needed at The Ricoh Arena as they failed to land too many of their summer targets and were left with second-string, substandard players at the club.

The future looks uncertain at Coventry with no permanent manager at the helm (and none expected to be announced for the foreseeable future), things going badly on the pitch and various fan protests against ownership off the field.

If results started picking up, it would be the slightest consolation for the Sky Blues, who could well be League Two bound if things do not start improving.

One area that Coventry have often looked to - due to financial restrictions - is the local loan market.

Here are 4 West Midlands based players who might be interested in a loan move to local neighbours Coventry in January.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy

It is clear that Coventry need some firepower up front and they can replace one West Midlands based striker (West Brom's Andre Wright) with another in Rushian Hepburn-Murphy.

The 18-year-old is one of Aston Villa's hottest prospects and he nearly joined Coventry on deadline day but the Villains cancelled the move due to worries about his contract situation.

Those same concerns (Hepburn-Murphy's contract expires next summer) has led to Rangers trying to poach the England under-18 forward but Coventry could try again for a loan deal this January.

Jack Storer

If Coventry are looking for a different profile of striker then they could opt for the physical front man Jack Storer, who is currently at Birmingham City.

The 18-year-old joined the Blues from Stevenage in the summer and scored a remarkable seven goals in pre-season with many tipping him to go straight into the first team.

After starting as a first team squad player, Storer was sent off in his third game for the club and has only played once since, which came at the end of September, so a January loan move might be on the cards.

Bright Enobakhare

Another striker option that Coventry could seek to help their goal-shy form in front of goal is Wolves' centre forward Bright Enobakhare.

The Nigerian teenager scored 2 goals in his 3 EFL Trophy group stage matches for Wolves and Paul Lambert handed him a start against Preston.

The 18-year-old is not likely to be a permanent first team regular for Wolves though and Coventry could benefit from his pace, strength and eye for goal up top in League One.

Viv Solomon-Otabor

Gary Rowett has recently revealed that Viv Solomon-Otabor could be set for a loan exit from St Andrew's to gain more regular game time.

The 20-year-old is a quick and skillful winger who offers more end product than Kyel Reid, Jodi Jones or Ruben Lameiras.

All three parties could really benefit from Solomon-Otabor spending half a season on loan at Coventry and if he impresses in the third tier then he could find his way into Rowett's plans for the following year.
