Martyn Waghorn has said that he's delighted to have completed a move to Coventry City this summer.

The 31-year-old has penned a two-year contract that will see him move to the Ricoh Arena as part of Mark Robins' plans for the season ahead.

The Sky Blues enjoyed a decent campaign last term after finishing in 16th position in the Championship and so this term the challenge will be to kick on and push themselves towards a safe mid-table position.

Discussing the signing, Robins said: "We’re delighted to welcome Martyn to Coventry City.

“Martyn brings with him undoubted quality and pedigree, as well as much experience in the Championship.

“His versatility too will add to the attacking options that we have at the Club and he’ll no doubt be an important influence in the dressing room too.

“We’re very pleased that Martyn has agreed to join the Sky Blues and look forward to working with him.”

Waghorn's arrival will certainly help their cause as they look to do just that.

The experienced forward has been a key figure both on and off the pitch for Derby County over the last three years and with a new challenge lying in wait, Waghorn is determined to make a big impact during his second spell at the club.

Taking to Twitter, Waghorn said: "Delighted to have signed for Coventry City! Really looking forward to this next chapter of my career and the challenges ahead. Can’t wait to be back playing at the stadium in front our fans, let’s go!"

The verdict

Martyn Waghorn could be a big addition for Coventry City.

The Sky Blues are looking to kick on next term and if they're to do that then they're going to need Championship experience in order to push themselves forward.

Waghorn is certainly someone who will help the club to do that.

He might not be a player who will score 30 goals in a season but his impact both on and off the pitch will be a huge boost.
