Coventry City boss Mark Robins has provided a fitness update on Sky Blues duo Matt Godden and Michael Rose, with the nature of the news varying from good to bad during an interview with the Coventry Telegraph.

Both players are viewed as key members of the current Coventry squad and as a result it had been hoped that both would return to action in the near future as the Sky Blues seek to continue their quest to move up the league standings, after a somewhat slow start to the campaign.

However it appears that it will be the case of one returning to face Derby County rather than two, with Robins providing the following update on the fitness situation surrounding two players:

"I have no expectation on it (Godden returning) because no-one is giving me any hope.

“The specialist has said it’s going to take months, or a long time, for it to recover.

“And it’s just a case of when the pain can be tolerated."

“He'll (Michael Rose) hopefully be back training with us at the start of the week ahead of the game on Tuesday or Saturday."

Pressley? Mowbray? Who was the Coventry City manager when each of these 15 Sky Blues moments happened?

Both Godden and Rose have played a part in 11 and 10 games respectively this term and will be keen to make a return to full fitness in order for them to aid Coventry's fight against the threat of relegation back to League One over the coming months.

The Verdict

I believe that Godden will be the loss that is most felt by Coventry over the next few months as he is very much their focal point despite only netting on four occasions so far this season for the Sky Blues.

The threat he offers in behind gives his team a whole new dimension and it appears that this is something they'll have to do without for the considerable future.

Meanwhile Rose will be aiming to put a stop-start beginning to the season behind him as he looks to return to the first team fold, with the likes of Leo Ostigard, Kyle McFadzean Dominic Hyam competing with him for a spot in the back three.

The coming months present a good opportunity for Rose to re-establish himself as first choice after performing so well for the Sky Blues in their promotion season.
