Coventry City have taken Cardiff City midfielder Theo Wharton on trial, according to The Coventry Telegraph.

The same report revealed that former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Samba Diakite is also on trial with the Sky Blues.

Russell Slade is keen to strengthen his side as he aims to life Coventry off the foot of the League One table.

Slade has already added Nathan Clarke, Stuart Beavon, Callum Reilly and Kevin Foley to his squad this January and is set to secure the double loan signing of Derby youngsters Charles Vernam and Farrend Rawson, according to reports.

Theo Wharton worked with Slade at Cardiff City and the 22-year-old is described as a box-to-box midfielder.

The once-capped Saint Kitts and Nevis international has only ever managed two senior appearances at Cardiff and could be set for an exit, although the report does not indicate whether Coventry would explore a loan or permanent deal.

Coventry fans – would you take Wharton at your club? What could he offer the midfield? Let us know in the comments below…
