The January transfer window is getting closer and that will be music to Coventry fans' ears because the squad is depleted at the moment.

A number of the summer loans expire in January too and it remains to be seen whether they will be extended to season-long deals (or whether Coventry want to extend them at all).

Coventry will therefore be very active in the January window and try to bolster the squad.

The season started disastrously with manager Tony Mowbray departing the club with the Sky Blues firmly rooted to the bottom of the League One table.

But interim manager Mark Venus has revolutionised the side and fired them up the league with a number of wins.

Coventry are now just five points off the play-off spots but are still just three above the relegation zone.

This means January recruitment is imperative and Coventry have a good relationship with Southampton, who they borrowed Jack Stephens from last year and signed Jordan Turnbull from this summer.

Here are TWO Southampton players the Sky Blues should look to sign in January

Jack Stephens

In a season where Adam Armstrong scored 20 goals, Jacob Murphy terrorised League One full backs and former England international Joe Cole enjoyed a successful loan spell at Coventry, it comes as high praise that Jack Stephens was considered by some to have been the best of the loan bunch.

The 22-year-old is a fine, composed defender who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and he would be a terrific addition to the Sky Blues squad.

The England under-21 international harbours first team ambitions at Southampton but the Saints have a strong defence and he might be set for another January loan switch.

Lloyd Isgrove

Lloyd Isgrove is another on the periphery of the Southampton first team and it might benefit him to spend another period out on loan.

The once-capped Wales international is an extremely quick winger with an great delivery too.

After helping Barnsley to promotion last season, the 23-year-old might consider joining Coventry this season and becoming the most potent attacking outlet at the club.
