There is no doubt that Coventry City will be active in the January transfer window.

All six of the Sky Blues' current loanees only have deals taking them to the start of January so Coventry are likely to be light on the ground in the new year.

Interim boss Mark Venus is in charge of first team affairs for the foreseeable future so he might be in charge of the transfer window dealings.

This could be a vital period for Coventry, who are currently suspended between the promotion hopefuls and the relegation scrappers.

As they sit three points off the drop zone and five points off the play-off spots, the January window could be make or break in deciding Coventry's fate for the future.

Mark Venus needs to be scouring the Premier League clubs now and attempting to ascertain who might be available to draft in on loan.

Here are TWO suggestions of who he might consider from Everton.

Matthew Pennington

Matthew-Pennington

Matthew Pennington previously had a successful loan spell with Coventry and the centre back, who can also play at right back, would be welcomed back with open arms.

The 22-year-old has since had a spell at Walsall and made four first team appearances but he is down the pecking order at Goodison Park.

Another spell away from Everton could be on the cards for the former England under-19 man either on loan or permanently with former club Coventry bound to be keen on his services.

Tom Davies

Derby County v Wolverhampton Wanderers - Sky Bet Football League Championship

Tom Davies is considered one of Everton's best young prospects at the moment but the youngster needs to gain some first team action elsewhere to stake a future claim for the first team.

The England under-19 international recently signed a new long-term contract with the Toffees and has featured in a handful of first team matches this season as a bit-part player.

The talented 18-year-old central midfielder would be a very good replacement for outbound Chris McCann, who will team up with MLS side Atlanta United in January when his Coventry loan expires.
