Coventry City have agreed a deal to sign Brandon Mason, subject to a successful trial period, according to The Coventry Telegraph.

Mason is currently a free agent and he is training with the Coventry side as he attempts to win his contract with the League One new boys.

The Sky Blues are ready to sign Mason as Chris Stokes heads to Bury in League Two.

Coventry have already sold left-back Ryan Haynes to Shrewsbury Town and brought in ex-Salop Junior Brown in that department.

With Chris Camwell also on their books, last season's main options of Stokes and Haynes have been let go.

Mason is trying to earn himself a contract after being released by Watford.

The 20-year-old played four games for the Hornets, including two in the Premier League, and spent time on loan at Dundee United last season.

Mason has agreed a deal with the West Midlands based outfit but is still under trial at the moment.

The Verdict

Mason could be a shrewd addition for the Sky Blues as he is young and will have a point to prove.

Watford seemed to rate him, handing him game time in the Premier League, but have decided to pursue other options, leading to his release.

The youngster could get his career back on track at Coventry but he is expected to deputise for Brown early in the season.
