Coventry City are set to sign Chelsea starlet Dujon Sterling on loan, according to The Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [12:02PM].

Sterling has been making strides in the Chelsea academy and he is set to be loaned out to the League One new boys for the next stage of his development.

The England under-19 international is set for his first ever loan spell away from Stamford Bridge with his only senior football in his career coming in two cup appearances for the Blues - against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup and in an FA Cup clash with Norwich City.

Sterling was part of the young Lions squad who won the European under-19 Championships last summer, earning a place in the team of the tournament, and he is highly rated by both club and country.

Coventry are hoping to add the 18-year-old wing-back to their squad to bolster their current options, especially after back-up right-back Dion Kelly-Evans was released.

If Sterling does complete his signing, it will be Coventry's fifth senior signing of the summer following the arrivals of Junior Brown, Zain Westbrooke, Reise Allassani and Jonson Clarke-Harris, alongside youth duo Bouwe Bosma and Morgan Williams.

The Verdict

Sterling is a highly promising young player and this move is a sensible one for the next step in his career.

The speedy wing-back can play as a right-back or as a right midfielder, making him a useful option for Mark Robins to have in his squad.

If Sterling can perform for Coventry like he has been doing for Chelsea's under-23 side, then the Sky Blues have a very good player on their hands.
