Coventry City plotting transfer offer for Derby County player

Coventry City are lining up an offer to Derby County for Louie Sibley, according to Football Insider.

The Rams are facing a battle to keep one of their brightest young stars, with the Sky Blues now circling his future.

Liam Rosenior’s side will find it difficult to maintain some of the club’s best players following their relegation to League One last season.

Despite finding a new owner, the allure of Championship football will still have that pull for people.

The 20-year old has emerged at the club in recent years to become a useful squad player under previous managers.

The midfielder played 26 times for Wayne Rooney’s side last season as the club came 23rd in the league.

His performances in the second division have earned him international recognition with the England U20 team.

It is believed that Coventry will be competing with multiple Championship clubs, with Leeds United also cited as a previous admirer of the player under Marcelo Bielsa.

Sibley still has two years remaining on his contract at Derby so it will take some transfer fee to convince the Rams to sell.

Other bright young talents such as Festy Ebosele, Luke Plange, Malcolm Ebiowei, Lee Buchanan and Louie Watson have all departed in recent times.

The Verdict

It would come as a blow to Derby to lose someone who is as talented as Sibley, but that has been the reality that supporters have been getting used to in the last few months.

Coventry would be a great next destination for the youngster, with Mark Robins having a proven track record of giving young players a chance in the team.

The Sky Blues’ boss also has proven himself capable of developing those players and improving their abilities.

Coventry are also a club on the rise, with the team performing well the last few years while consistently improving season on season.
