Coventry City defender Declan Drysdale has posted a message on social media, after making his first-team debut for the Sky Blues last night.

The 19-year-old has been one of the standout players for Coventry's under-23 side so far this season and was finally handed the chance to make his senior debut on Tuesday evening, when he started the EFL Trophy clash with Southampton Under-21s.

The teenager played the entire game at St Andrew's at centre-back and put in a solid performance, as the Sky Blues won 3-2 to move to the top of Group D - thanks to a second-half hat-trick from striker Max Biamou.

Following the game on Tuesday night, Drysdale took to social media on Wednesday afternoon and sent a message to Coventry fans on Twitter, admitting that he was delighted to have made his senior debut for the Sky Blues.

Drysdale joined Coventry from Tranmere Rovers in January this year and went on to impress hugely for their development squad.

The defender will be hoping that he gets the chance to play for Coventry in League One this season, following the Sky Blues' impressive start to the campaign under Mark Robins.

The Verdict

Drysdale is clearly delighted to have made his senior debut for Coventry and he should be very pleased with his performance. He got stuck in at the back, but also impressed with his composure on the ball.

The defender will be hoping that he did enough to impress Mark Robins and convince him that he deserves to be in the team more often.

He's been one of the standout performers for Coventry's under-23 side over the past few months and if his display last night is anything to go by, he could be one to watch for the future.
