Coventry City have received a number of inquiries for Julien Dacosta, according to Coventry Live.

The Frenchman looks set to depart the Sky Blues this summer after arriving on a free transfer in 2020.

However, Dacosta’s stint with the club has not quite worked out, having only played 22 Championship games for the club.

The full back spent the previous campaign on loan in Portugal with Portimonense, where he played 11 league games but with only five starting appearances.

The 26-year old arrived from Ligue 2 side FC Chamois Niort with a lot of promise but has been unable to really live up to expectations.

With 12 months left on his current deal with Coventry, it is unlikely that he will remain at the club beyond this summer as Mark Robins looks to cash-in on what remains of his contract.

A number of League One and League Two clubs have made their interest known in the player’s services, with Coventry actively encouraging Dacosta to pursue a move.

But no concrete offer has been made for the player just yet despite the interest.

The Marseille academy product fell down the pecking order under Robins with the arrival of Todd Kane from QPR on transfer deadline day last summer.

That led to his exit for Portugal, where he again was unable to make a serious impact in the side.

The Verdict

A sale now looks the best route for both parties, with it being made clear that Dacosta has no place in Robins’ plans for next season.

Dacosta departing would free up some funds in the wage bill, even if no fee is earned as part of a potential sale.

Leaving would also give the player a fresh start to reset his career after a couple of disappointing years in England.

A step down to League One or League Two could also offer him the chance to remain in the country, keep his profile high and to prove people wrong about his talent level.
