Coventry City boss Tony Mowbray has revealed that is hopeful that influential central defender Reda Johnson will stay with the club.
The ex-Sheffield Wednesday defender’s contract at the Ricoh Arena is due to expire at the end of the month, although he has been offered new terms to stay on with the club.
Reports have emerged in recent weeks that Johnson could be a transfer targets for several clubs in both the Championship and in League One, but Mowbray is refusing to rule out the possibility of keeping hold of one of his prized assets.
Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph: ‘Without saying it’s a done deal or anything like that, I am hopeful that we can get the deal across the line.
‘I would say it is ongoing. I have spoken to Reda half a dozen times over the last few weeks, even on my holidays. I get on really well with him and I have known him a lot of years. I am hopeful but he does have other offers too.’
Frenchman Johnson signed for the Sky Blues from Sheffield Wednesday last summer.
