Coventry City legend Dave Bennett has stated that he believes the club will make a bid for Liam Walsh in the summer transfer window.

The Sky Blues are currently top of the League One table, and are seven points ahead of third placed Oxford United with just 12 games of the league campaign left to play.

One of the standout performers of the season has been midfielder Walsh, and the player has had a massive effect on the successful campaign, constantly being a star man in the side.

The central-midfielder is on loan from Bristol City but his deal comes to an end at the campaign meaning he'll return to Lee Johnson's side.

Bennett has expressed that he thinks the club will make a bid for Walsh and that he can see the 22-year-old being a prime target for Coventry throughout the summer.

Speaking to Coventry Live, Bennett said: "It will be interesting to see how he looks at his future and how the club look at his future with regard to how the manager wants to play in the Championship,

"If Coventry have got any money to spend I think they will make a bid for him. He will be a prime target, I would have thought, that the club will be looking to add this summer."

The Verdict

You cannot underestimate the influence that Walsh has had on this side, and throughout the many games that he's played for the team he has constantly been very good.

He's a big part of why the Sky Blues are up near the top of the league table, and Coventry must try and make sure that they do everything they can to keep him permanently.

Bennett knows the club well, and it wouldn't be a surprise for him to hear a few things about the club and what they know.

Walsh should definitely sign but only if Johnson still isn't willing to give the player any first-team football next season.
