There's been a bit of doom and gloom around Coventry City, with the failure to replace Marc McNulty and the lack of goals so far this season.

With the constant shadow of the Ricoh Arena ownership too, it is easy to under-estimate the job Mark Robins is doing with the Sky Blues. This weekend they snatched their first win, result in four points from three games and a midtable placing.

It is far too early to speculate on what this means, but when we look at their record in the division so far, they've settled far quicker than the other sides promoted from League Two. Wycombe were always going to struggle with their direct football, but Accrington's limited resources mask a very good footballing side with a great set of players.

Luton Town have had a tough start, but the Sky Blues were some way off all three last season and at one stage looked to be struggling for a top seven finish in League Two. Now, they're the highest of all four and have a run of fixtures that should be the catalyst for a push up the division.

They face Blackpool, Oxford and Rochdale in three of their next four games, all sides below them who are struggling to find the net. Whilst Coventry are in the same boat, they're also not conceding and that is perhaps the starting point for all good teams. It would be feasible for them to take six points, maybe seven from those three games.

There's a tricky match against Gillingham coming up, they're doing well but there's a question over whether that is just early season exuberance or a sustainable top six challenge, but Mark Robin must be thinking his side could be in the early play off spots once that run is over. If they are, it could help them overcome one of the biggest barriers they face; replacing McNulty.

They still need a centre forward, one capable of adding to the threat of Clarke Harris and Biamou, one who might bag fifteen or twenty goals after he joins. Maybe it is an out of favour Championship striker, maybe even one in their own division who is not getting games.

If they can keep up this early season form, whether it is sustainable or not, it might give their reputation the boost it needs to attract that final piece of the jigsaw. with Jodi Jones due back, Tony Andreu already back and Luke Thomas set to shine, they are not far away from being a top six side. Defensively they look sound, two clean sheets in their last two league games testifies to that, meaning the only hurdle they need to over come is a goal scorer.

They might be top of the promoted sides in the middle of August, but it wouldn't be entirely surprising to see them hold that position throughout the season.
