Coventry City boss Mark Robins has admitted to Coventry Live that the Sky Blues would be interested in bringing Leo Ostigard back to the club if the opportunity arose this summer.

The 21-year-old Brighton and Hove Albion centre back previously spent the entirety of the 2020/21 season out on loan with the Midlands side and made 40 appearances across all competitions during his stint with Coventry.

Ostigard has now returned to the South Coast and it remains to be seen as to whether he will be staying or going at Brighton, with the Sky Blues still said to hold an interest in re-signing the Norwegian during the current window.

Speaking about the situation surrounding the defender, Robins was quick to state the following on his club's stance:

"I think he is looking at different things for himself but we haven't spoken.

"He knows that if he's available and that's something Brighton wanted to do then clearly we'd be interested.

"But that isn't something that's reared its head."

The Brighton player has already featured for the Seagulls in pre-season and is said to be a defender that boss Graham Potter is keen to have a look at this summer.

Ostigard saw his contract extended by a further year by the Premier League club and will now be looking to make an impression over the next 12 months if he stays put on the South Coast.

The Verdict

Signing Ostigard again will have been high up on the club's list of priorities this summer, but it is clear that this one may be slipping away from Coventry as the transfer window progresses.

The Sky Blues cannot afford to wait forever for one player, so I wouldn't be surprised if they have now switched their attentions to other targets.

Bringing in a new defender is of high importance right now and I think they will have to work hard to bring in the right type of player to replace the Norwegian.

A loan deal could be the best port of call once more for Coventry, with finances being particularly tight after the impact of the pandemic.
