Coventry City and Birmingham City played out a drab 0-0 draw in their FA Cup fourth round clash at St. Andrew’s although Callum O’Hare missed a huge chance to settle the tie in stoppage time.

The game was played under rather strange circumstances with Blues the away side in their own ground, with the Sky Blues playing their home games this year in the second city.

Due to the good relationship between the clubs, Birmingham were granted over 9,000 tickets for this and that made for a very good atmosphere before kick-off.

Unfortunately though, the players didn’t respond to that by producing a game to remember.

However, things did start brightly, with Kerim Mrabti showing good pace and skill to put in a cross for Lukas Jutkiewicz but he fouled keeper Marko Marosi when bundling the ball in.

Pep Clotet’s side continued to control the opening stages and the big striker had a snapshot smartly kept out shortly after.

The League One side gradually came into it though and gave a glimpse of the undoubted talent they had when a smart move down the left involving Sam McCallum played in Jordan Shipley but his short was saved for corner.

Yet, neither side kicked on as the half progressed and they went into the break all-square.

The lively Jefferson Montero, who had the beating of Fankaty Dabo but not always the end product, had the first effort of the second period when his stinging shot was pushed over.

Once again though, that wasn’t the catalyst for better things. Blues continued to struggle in keeping the ball and Mark Robins’ men quickly took control of the game.

The introduction of Max Biamou and O’Hare made a big difference, with the duo bringing a sharpness to the final third that had been badly missing all afternoon.

And, they linked up almost immediately, with the on-loan Aston Villa man feeding the striker with a clever ball but Biamou’s curling effort was beaten away by Lee Camp.

At this stage, the Championship side were penned back, even if they weren’t getting carved open.

The back three that Robins went with had Jutkiewicz largely under control and they were starting attacks from deep.

Jeremie Bela, who replaced the injured Mrabti, couldn’t inspire a turnaround for Blues and Manchester United target Jude Bellingham failed to get into the game - much to his frustration.

So, it was still Coventry looking the more likely and a fine volley from Liam Kelly almost gave the Sky Blues the lead late on but it whistled past the post.

Yet, there was still a bigger chance to come.

A fine ball to the back post found the unmarked Amadou Bakoyoko, who had replaced Matt Godden, and he unselfishly headed across to O’Hare who just needed to tap home from a few yards out but he failed to connect properly and the ball trickled wide.

That came in stoppage time and even though Birmingham remain in the cup, their fans made their anger clear as Clotet’s men were booed off as their St. Andrew’s woes continue – even as the away team.
