Aston Villa could head to the capital of the United States this summer for a pre-season friendly with Major League Soccer side DC United.

Soccer Insider journalist Steven Goff is reporting that Dean Smith’s side could be in line to face Wayne Rooney’s current club ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

It would be the first time since 2014 that Villa have taken on MLS opposition.

Having beating FC Dallas during a pre-season tour of the United States six years ago.

Nothing has been confirmed at present with Goff reporting that there have been talks after discussions between DC and Ligue 1 side Monaco broke down.

It would be a showpiece friendly for the Championship club who have aspirations of potentially heading to Audi Field this summer as a Premier League side.

Villa are currently sixth in the table after an impressive win over Middlesbrough last weekend and are the form team heading into the run-in.

The potential fixture with DC United could be a warm-up to a Premier League campaign if all goes well for Smith’s side between now and May.

With that said, here’s how the Villa fans responded to the potential meeting with the MLS side out in the States.
