‘Couldn’t have put that better’ – Many West Brom fans react to Valerien Ismael’s transfer admission

West Bromwich Albion boss Valerien Ismael has claimed he expects both Sam Johnstone and Matheus Pereira to leave the club this summer, which has drawn an interesting reaction from many Baggies fans.

Ismael left Barnsley to take charge of the Hawthorns last month and made former Tykes skipper Alex Mowatt his first signing of the summer.

The 45-year-old coach spoke to the press for the first time as Albion boss yesterday and confirmed that he believes Johnstone and Pereira – two of the club’s in-demand players – will leave this summer.

He told the Express & Star: “It’s not a secret that Sam Johnstone and Matheus Pereira can maybe leave the club.

“It’s my expectation that they (will) leave.

“But I don’t need the best players, I need the right players for the position.

“Even if they leave we will find the solution or we will reinvest the money.”

Johnstone has been linked with Arsenal, West Ham United, and Wolves – though the goalkeeper’s departure will likely wait until after Euro 2020 as he’s part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

There are no shortage of clubs seemingly keen to offer Pereira a route back to the Premier League in the current window, with Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Norwich CityLeeds United, Leicester City, West Ham United, and Crystal Palace all reportedly keen.

Ismael’s comments have certainly caught the attention of the Baggies fanbase, with many supporters taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts…
