Swansea City have confirmed the signing of Jamie Paterson on a free transfer this Friday lunchtime.

The 29-year-old was a free agent after leaving Bristol City at the end of last term, meaning that he was free to discuss terms with other clubs over a move.

Paterson had been training with Middlesbrough during pre-season as he looked to build up his fitness but it's a move to the Swans that he has sealed, with him making 22 appearances for the Robins last term.

So will Paterson be a good signing for Swansea?

The team at FLW have their say...

Ned Holmes Swansea have continued to snap up Bristol City's cast-offs and, as with the signings of Korey Smith and Liam Walsh, this one could prove a really smart bit of business. With Russell Martin at the helm, the Swans are surely going to try and play expansive football and a technically excellent player like Paterson should slot into that nicely. He is capable of producing real moments of magic and has proven himself a versatile player, so should make a really useful addition – particularly given Martin doesn't seem to have a huge amount of money to spend. With Grimes continuing to be linked with a move away from the club, adding more creativity in midfield make sense and Paterson should give them just that. Just as Smith has proven the Robins were wrong to let him go, the 29-year-old may well have his former employers kicking themselves if he can find some form Jacob Potter This could turn out to be a smart signing by the Swans this summer. Additional strength in depth is needed in wide areas of the Swansea City team, with Nathan Dyer recently announcing his retirement from football. Paterson has shown that he's a solid option to have for teams in the Championship, having spent a number of years playing at this level so far. On a free transfer it's a deal that makes complete sense for Swansea, and if Paterson can hit the ground running, then this will be a shrewd investment in future seasons. I was partly surprised to see him leave Bristol City in the summer, and their loss could be Swansea's gain, as they look to win promotion back into the Premier League this season under the management of Russell Martin. George Dagless I think it's a potentially decent deal for the Swans. He is a good player that knows this league very well and he'll also be able to handle the expectation of what Swansea want to do this season, given he's played for the likes of Bristol City at this level and they have also had playoff ambitions. Swansea obviously aren't the most flush with cash and so it's a deal that makes sense on a free whilst he joins a couple of other Bristol City ex-players and so he should settle in quickly and get up to speed nice and promptly. Swansea needed a bit more in their midfield area and I think Paterson is a smart option to be bringing in.
