Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi continues to tweak his squad ahead of the closing of the latest transfer window, with the addition of Brighton defender Gaetan Bong, who has joined Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee, on a deal until the summer of 2022, as confirmed by the Forest club website.
The Cameroon defender, 31, has played 102 times for Brighton, including 51 games in the Premier League whilst also playing Champions League football for Olympiakos back in 2013.
So is Bong a good addition at the City Ground and is he actually needed?
“This is a smart signing for Forest.
“Quite simply, they needed a left-back after Jack Robinson left and then Chema followed him out the door yesterday.
“Therefore, to bring in someone who has proven himself at this level makes total sense and he will be perfect cover for Yuri Ribeiro and Lamouchi will have no worries about turning to Bong if anything happens to the Portuguese player.
“As well as that, the fact Bong has won promotion is a major positive and that experience could be vital in the run in as Forest look to finally return to the Premier League.”

“I think that Bong is a great addition for the Reds and it could give Sabri Lamouchi’s side a much-needed boost in their hopes of winning promotion to the Premier League.
“I would have been worried for Forest if they weren’t to bring in another left-back before the deadline, as it would have been risky leaving Yuri Ribeiro as their only option there following the departures of Chema and Jack Robinson.
“You need depth in the Championship to withstand the amount of games you play, particularly in the second-half of the season, therefore Bong could be an excellent back-up option for Ribeiro.
“Whilst he may be a good footballer, the character and leadership and experience he’ll bring to the dressing room is beneficial, and you need them types of characters who know what it takes to win promotion from the second tier.”
“This could turn out to be a season-defining transfer by Forest as Bong knows exactly what it takes to succeed at Championship level.
“Having helped Brighton achieve promotion to the Premier League in 2017 by making 24 appearances in the second-tier, the defender will be hoping to replicate this particular feat at the City Ground.
“Given that Forest have opted to part ways with Jack Robinson and Chema this month, they desperately needed to bolster their options at left-back and thus a move for Bong ought to be welcomed by the club’s supporters.
“Providing that the Cameroon international is able to hit the ground running in the Championship over the coming months, there is no reason why he cannot inspire the Reds to a top-two finish in May.”
