With Sheffield Wednesday looking to add a bit of creativity to their midfield, George Honeyman would be the ideal signing.

The attacking midfielder was one of the only members of crisis-hit Sunderland to emerge from this campaign with any sort of respectability. With his six goals and two assists, it has been a breakout year for the young Englishman. He will be loath to see it end in dropping down a tier.

Following back-to-back relegations, the Black Cats will have to sell players expecting to play at a higher level. As Honeyman has proved that he is more than comfortable in the Championship, Sunderland will struggle to convince him to stay and play for them in League One.  At 23, he is already an able performer. Strong in the tackle and not afraid to carry the ball, he has plenty of room and time for growth.

As for the Owls, their central midfield proved solid if somewhat uninspired. Of the main three central midfielders, only Adam Reach, four goals and 11 assists, had a particularly strong season and even that came largely from playing out wide. Both Barry Bannan and Jacob Butterfield had middling seasons that did not promise a great deal more to come. The addition of Honeyman would add a certain spark of creativity that could drastically improve the threat going forward. It may even encourage the likes of Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher, and Jordan Rhodes to return to form.
