Could this Nottingham Forest outcast have seriously forced his way back into Warburton’s plans?

Much has been made of the incomings at Nottingham Forest this summer, with boss Mark Warburton attempting to put his own mark on the squad he inherited in March, but little has been discussed regarding one man supposedly on the way out of the City Ground.

Portuguese winger Lica has been with the Reds since 2015, yet has only appeared in the league on five occasions, with Warburton informing the player that he has no future at the club beyond this summer.

However in recent weeks, Lica is beginning to prove his worth, and several goals during the pre-season period may have alerted Warburton to the talent the winger possesses, and may force the former Brentford boss into reconsidering whether to offer the player once last chance in the East Midlands.

Forest have little to lose by including the player in their match day squads until a buyer can be found, and Lica could continue his fine pre season form into the Championship campaign.

Forest are looking for new options following the departure of top scorer Britt Assombalonga and a narrow escape from relegation last time out, and Lica could rise from the ashes to relaunch an English football career that has really failed to take off.

Lica joined from Porto was great excitement and expectation, but the demands of the second tier proved too much, and a short loan spell with former club Estoril followed.

With Forest just a week away from their opening day fixture at home to Millwall, Lica may have done enough to convince Warburton that he deserves a place in the match day squad, and should an opportunity be thrusted upon him, the Portuguese must seize the initiative.

It is likely that Lica will return to his homeland in the coming weeks, but football is a funny game, and one small morsel of opportunity could turn this winger’s career around overnight.

Should Lica’s pre season form be rewarded with a second chance, Forest fans?
