With reports emerging that Middlesbrough are set to appoint Garry Monk as the man to lead the club back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, a number of players are being touted as potential additions to the squad at the Riverside Stadium.

Having left Leeds at the end of the season, speculation has been rife that Monk will raid his old club for their prized assets, and Middlesbrough will back their new boss in the transfer market with the infamous parachute payments set to be injected into the club.

Monk will already have a strong squad at his disposal but will surely lose star striker Alvaro Negredo, who is without a shadow of a doubt too good to play in the Championship, and will return to Valencia following the end of his loan spell.

Leeds fans are sure to already be disappointed by Monk’s departure, but a swoop for star striker Chris Wood by their former boss would be the final straw.

Wood was superb in the league last season, and smashed an unbelievable 27 Championship goals.

It would take a huge bid to lure Wood away from Elland Road, and Leeds would hold Middlesbrough to ransom to ensure they secure the best deal for the big Kiwi.

There is no denying Wood’s class however, and the former West Brom man has quickly become one of the best players in the division.

It would be a remarkable transfer if this were to be pulled off by Monk, and pairing Wood with the equally imposing Rudy Gestede would give the Teessiders the most powerful front line in the Football League.
